What is NMR?
Many people are prevented from achieving or continuing their workout potential because of chronic shoulder or knee injuries. The body heals injuries with scar tissue-both outside and inside the body. Unfortunately, scar tissue can adhere between the particular muscle that was torn, and another muscle, or muscle and fascia, etc. Such a situation is known as a "Myofascial Adhesion," and can be a chronic source of pain and dysfunction. Myofascial Pain can arise in any injured "soft-tissue."

Neuromuscular Re-Education ("NMR") effectively and quickly treats myofascial adhesions, often ending pain and dramatically improving function.

How does NMR work?
It is theorized that NMR is effective because of the following:

  • After identifying the particular injured soft-tissue, the Doctor relies on detailed knowledge of anatomy to treat (for example) the entire muscle from its origin to its insertion. Treatment consists of focused over-pressure along the course of the muscle fibers as the muscle is worked in its own functional range of motion.
  • The introduction of controlled microtrauma to affected soft tissue structure causes the stimulation of a local inflammatory response.
  • Microtrauma initiates reabsorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade of healing activities resulting in remodeling of affected soft tissue structures.
Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.
